Barbara Derecktor Donahue a life time dance artist is a self taught painter. Her painting journey began 3 1/2 years ago in Ft. Pierce, Florida (she was living there then). In F.P. one of her goat paintings got into a museum show called "the best of the best" at the A. E Backus Museum which gave her confidence that she was on the right painting pathway. In F.P. she painted her first A to Z series of animals on paper. The next A to Z’s were letters painted on felt and then they were painted on canvas before they became hard cover books. The most recent A to Z letters, stories, phrases book is an 8 x 11 Art book young budding artists can draw in. The A to Z theme expanded into designs of wearable art and home decor which can be seen on Contrado. She is currently working on a fourth painted book, portraits, astrology stories and is teaching one young student who loves to paint and tell stories. This students class curriculum is based on the Painted A to Z letters which hang across the top of one wall. His paintings and stories hang beneath the letters. The A to Z wall of art will be on display during the south coast tour. Barbara's style is raw, colorful, experimental, unconventional, whimsical and sometimes tells stories. She works with pencil, acrylic, oil, watercolor and markers. Her favorite quote is "We never know what's next and anything is possible”.
