Carolyn is attracted by large scale structures such as bridges, as marvels of engineering that are built to integrate people with the landscape. She photographs her subject-matter on site, then composes and paints in her studio. She uses a bold color palette, far removed from the grays of concrete and steel, to enliven her art and bring the viewer into places seldom noticed. Her work captures the interplay between the man-made constructions we live with, and the natural beauty of water and light. Her paintings often contain repeating geometric shapes and patterns, creating a tranquility of rhythm. At times, a very active sky transforms the scene to a foreboding mood.

Formally trained in fine art, Carolyn also studied and worked as a graphic designer. Her early influences include 20th century American artists like Charles Sheeler, Andrew Wyeth, Edward Hopper, and architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
