Galen V. Snow, Fine Art

Galen Snow is a trained oil painter and received her certificate in Painting & Drawing at Rhode Island School of Design. She has developed her paper montage medium over the last 10 years, using only paper and glue; or, "Painting with Paper". Her paper paintings are representational of the natural world, mostly birds, flowers and 'scapes. Her works take hours of precise cutting and tearing of paper, layered to bring the subjects to life. The smaller ones take up to 50-60 hours of work; the larger ones can take months. She uses photographs, her years of walking and enjoying the outdoors and reference manuals as her research material. The colors she chooses from the transparent imported rice and flax papers she uses are often layered together to create the hue she seeks for her backgrounds, while using the opaque papers of quality publications to create the subject more realistically. Her intricate, colorful and textural pieces are in collections across the country.
