Heather Stivison Contemporary Art

Heather Stivison is an award-winning visual artist whose paintings, drawings, textile works and animations have been exhibited in museums, universities, and galleries across the United States and in juried shows in Europe and Asia. She holds an MFA in painting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, with additional studies visual arts at Parsons School of Design, Rhode Island School of Design, and Montclair State University.

She is a multi-disciplinary artist who loves to experiment with materials and mark making, finding excitement in each new discovery. Her paintings, drawings, and fiber art tend to focus on themes of ecology, water, science, and social justice. Even her most abstract paintings hint at narratives. She is an avid reader and many of her creations are inspired by literature.

Before moving from New Jersey to New England in 2014, Stivison worked as a museum director, and served as president of both the New Jersey Association of Museums, and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums. Today, she enjoys working alongside fellow artists at Hatch Street Studios, in New Bedford. She is represented by Pleiades Gallery in New York City.
