Seascape Studio LC

Joanne Gregory has been designing and creating sea inspired art since 2015. She trained under the guidance of Sandy Moran, an award-winning shell artist until her death in 2020. Joanne creates both traditional and contemporary Sailor’s Valentines. Each piece begins with a thoughtful geometric design that fits tightly into an octagon shaped wooden box using a variety of woods including maple and mahogany. The entire design is filled with tiny colorful shells and sea life fragments, each placed individually. Her finished pieces range from 1 ½ inches to 17 inches in diameter and take up to six months to complete. In 2020, Joanne expanded her work to include bead embroidered art incorporating larger shells and fine glass beads to create sea inspired wall hangings and jewelry. This type of work uses a needle and thread to stitch shells, sea life and beads to a surface of fabric, suede or leather. Her work has been displayed at the Bristol Art Museum, Brownell Library, Little Compton Community Center and Westport Art Group. She is a member of South Coast Artists and Westport Art Group.
