REALISTIC CANDID PASTEL PORTRAITS. MAKES A GREAT GIFT.

Peter Halpin

Peter Halpin grew up in Connecticut and has enjoyed art for the past 56 years. Self-described as a hobby artist, Pete started out as a Central Connecticut State University college student, where he created a life-size sculpture: a bust of “Christ at Gethsemane” (a centerpiece at the University’s art show). At the time, Pete was studying Industrial Technology; and also separately received a degree in Electrical Engineering…..AND he threw in a few art classes on the side. Professionally, Pete went the "practical route" with years of teaching high school and then at the Defense Department. Art has always been in the background of his life.

Most recently, Pete has revived his art interests and has been creating pastels and watercolors (80% pastel, 20% watercolors). While living in Vero Beach, FL, he was fortunate to attend seminars sponsored by the Museum of Art there, which were taught by prominent watercolor artist, Steve Rogers.

Pete would say that being a Virgo and a type "A" personality, with a numbers oriented background, he is probably the last person you would pick to be in the art world. As much as he admires, respects, and wishes he was more of an Andy Warhol, Picasso type guy, he has to admit, he steers closer to a Norman Rockwell type portraiture guy.

Now retired and living in Tiverton with his wife, he looks forward to giving his artwork his full attention. His home studio is open during the South Coast Artists Tours in July and August.
