BOTANICALLY PRINTED SILK SCARVES AND FABRICS

Robyn Borges

Bippity Bop Design

Robyn Borges of Bippity Bop Design creates unique, Botanically Printed silk scarves and fabrics. No synthetic dyes or paints are used in her process, only locally foraged leaves & blossoms. Robyn's unusual process is Eco-friendly and produces a one-of-a-kind wearable piece of art. Each scarf is made individually by wrapping the fabric and leaves around a dowel and then tying it tightly to create a bundle. She then uses steam, water and patience to coax the natural pigments and tannins from each leaf and blossom.

She has successfully combined her love of gardening with over 20 years of designing printed and woven fabrics for the commercial textile industry. Robyn earned a BFA in Textile Design from UMass Dartmouth as well as training at RISD. In later years, she earned a Certificate of Interior Design at RISD and worked for Ethan Allen as well as other local design firms.

Robyn has taught workshops in Botanical Printing as well as Natural Dyeing and the Art of Papermaking. She truly enjoys inspiring others to discover their own creative spirit. She has given presentations on the History of Natural Dyes, and Botanical Printing. Recently, she created a “Dyer’s Garden” at her home studio to use in her fiber artwork. Plants such as marigolds, wild geraniums, coreopsis and peonies are frequently used in her silk scarves and fabrics. The artist has stated “there is something truly amazing in planting a flower, helping it grow, and then incorporating it in the design of my fabrics.”

Her scarves can be purchased through the Etsy website and a few local giftshops, such as Blithewold in Bristol, RI. Please contact the artist if you have an interest in upcoming workshops.
