Stan Frankenthaler is an abstract artist working in the encaustic medium creating paintings; bricolage, and mono-prints. He is "unschooled" in a formal sense, albeit has sought out learning from several talented artists and teachers. He draws his inspiration from the beauty of the natural world - flowers, trees, the ocean and sky. "I am inherently drawn to the encaustic medium as it expresses my deepest aesthetic and visual sensibilities. The essential nature of the wax enables the formation of multiple layers; assimilating and accepting other organic materials. The narrative captured in the wax is the story I seek to share. The steps in the encaustic process — heating, melting, melding colors, fusing — for me reflect the inevitable inseparability of nature’s lifeforces. These elements are dynamic: ever-present, ever-changing. The bees’ wax being the great unifier!" Stan also paints in watercolor; writes; and is a well-known Chef and creator of Salamander Restaurant, among others.
